The University of Vermont Health Network McClure Miller Respite House continues a legacy of high-quality residential hospice care originally established by visionary community leaders in 1991 as McClure Miller Respite House. Respite House was designed to be a home-away-from-home for people with terminal illness and their families, welcoming residents from all walks of life, from all over Vermont and from beyond its borders.

Today, the McClure Miller Respite House stays true to the original mission by continuing to offer care and support from dedicated staff and community volunteers during the last weeks of people’s lives while sustaining dignity, respect and caring relationships.

McClure Miller Respite House is a unique model in health care and Vermont’s only Medicare-certified inpatient hospice residence. Opened in 2016, the 21-room house offers the feeling of home with a large living room, open kitchen, and spacious resident rooms. The latest technology and essential medical and supportive equipment are integrated within the design and invisible to residents and visitors creating a warm and comfortable environment.  Care is provided in the privacy of your room which includes a fully accessible bathroom and shower.  As a resident of our home, your meals are also part of your care.  Our kitchen is fully stocked, and staff are ready to satisfy your cravings and can accommodate any dietary requirements.

Most importantly, you have the care and attention of our skilled staff and volunteers around the clock so you and your family can focus on what matters most to you.

  • If coming from the North: Take Interstate 89, Exit 17, Route 2 (Also Route 7) South for 3.5 miles.
  • If coming from the South: Take Interstate 89, Exit 16, Route 2 (Also Route 7) North for 2.8 miles.
  • If coming from the East: Take Route 2A. Turn left onto Route 2 (Also Route 7). The Respite House is .5 miles on the right.
