2017 5K Fun Run Recap
Last year’s event raised more than $40,000 to benefit VNA Respite House, thanks to fundraising efforts and the underwriting of corporate sponsors. Alice Christian of Colchester was the top individual fundraiser with a grand total of $2,295. Our top team fundraiser was Team Irwin, who raised an impressive total of $6,240. We also want to recognize Team Backwoods Wanderers, the top first-time team fundraiser with a total of $2,671.
Every dollar raised at the Fun Run allows VNA Respite House to provide compassionate hospice care to those who are unable to pay the full fee for room and board; no one facing a terminal illness is ever turned away due to lack of ability to pay. For 27 years, VNA Respite House has been a unique model in health care, the first and only Medicare-certified inpatient hospice residence in Vermont. Approximately 40% of the Respite House operating budget comes from community support, including the money raised at the Fun Run. Thank you for your support.
We are also proud of our timed runners. Jamie Shearer of Essex was our top overall runner for the second year in a row, finishing with a time of 19:46. Sara Roberts of Burlington was the first female runner to cross the finish line at 21:21. All of our runners who participated in the 5K race received an official time and top finishers for each age category were awarded medals.
And enjoy some fun photos from last year’s event!
