Seasonal Flu Clinic Information
The Importance of Getting a Flu Vaccine
For the 2010-2011 flu season, it is recommended that everyone ages 6 months and older should receive a flu vaccine. One of the best ways to protect yourself against the flu is to get a vaccine. Being vaccinated against the flu during the fall months can also provide the most protection for people.
And while it is important that everyone get a flu shot each season, it is especially important that people are vaccinated who might be at high risk of having serious flu-related complications or because they live with or care for people who fit that criteria, such as:
-
Pregnant women
-
Children under age 5 years, especially those under age 2
-
People 50+ years old
-
People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
-
Nursing home and long-term care facility residents
-
People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
-
Health care workers
-
Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from flu
-
Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (children wh oare too young to be vaccinated).
