Grief & Bereavement

For those who have experienced the death of a loved one, the VNA offers short-term bereavement counseling and support groups that are open to the public. The Bereavement Care program also has an annual memorial service and offers community presentations about grief.

Our Bereavement Support Group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at the PACE Vermont Program Site at Fanny Allen Campus, 786 College Parkway (Rte 15), Colchester, VT. The free group meets from 6 to 7:30 pm. Please contact Ally Parker, Grief and Bereavement Coordinator, at 802 860-4410 for more information.

Along with education for families on the grief process, the program offers periodic outreach for families for a full year following the death of their loved one.

Camp Knock Knock

In addition to all of these services, the Bereavement Care program also assists with the coordination of an annual weekend family bereavement camp. Held in early June, this camp is open to adults and children who have experienced the death of a loved one.

By providing open support and guidance, this camp creates an opportunity for growth and healing for families who are experiencing the natural grieving process. Skilled counselors, professionals, and trained volunteers participate in this unique experience for families.

Campers participate in a variety of activities that may include arts and crafts, campfires, story times, a candlelight remembrance ceremony and small group sessions to provide strategies for adults and children coping with grief.

The 2008 Camp Knock Knock will be held June 6-8. For more information about the camp, please call Ally Parker, VNA Bereavement Coordinator, at 658-1900 x3405.
