Vermont Respite House

This VNA End-of-Life Care program is a home away from home for people with terminal illness – a place where they can live the remainder of their days in peace, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Founded in 1991, this home for the terminally ill utilizes the expertise of skilled VNA caregivers and volunteers who are dedicated to providing a warm, caring and personalized environment for people in the final stages of life.

The house has 13 private rooms with baths and each room contains a pull-out sofa which guests can use for overnight visits or for longer stays.

Vermont Respite House is a unique model in health care today, not a hospital, nursing home or institution. This is the first and currently only Medicare-certified inpatient hospice residence in Vermont.

Vermont Respite House Admissions Statement

Vermont Respite House is a Medicare certified home for the terminally ill serving individuals who have an expected prognosis of six months or less and require skilled symptom management and supportive care.  We at the Vermont Respite House are committed to providing the highest standards of care for those who need us.

New admissions to VRH occur as promptly as possible while respecting the needs of our current residents, staffing ratios required for quality care, and other pending admissions.  Typical lengths of stay at Vermont Respite House are from three to six weeks; about 30 days on average.
